Section 232 – Aluminum Derivative Tariffs Update

On February 10, 2025, the President issued Proclamation 10895, expanding Section 232 tariffs to cover additional aluminum derivative products. On August 15, 2025, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released CSMS #65936615, providing official guidance and further detailing the products and applicable duties. These changes take effect on August 18, 2025, and will impact importers through higher tariffs on affected aluminum derivatives.

Effective Date

Duties apply beginning August 18, 2025 at 12:01 a.m. EDT, including goods entered for consumption or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption on or after this date.

Applicability

Applies to additional aluminum derivative products newly included in Annex I of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS) under Proclamation 10895. Products are classified under HTS Chapter 99 numbers specified by CBP.

Other Information

  • Reciprocal Tariffs: Non-aluminum content may be subject to reciprocal tariffs (HTS 9903.01.25); aluminum content under Section 232 is not affected.

  • Drawback: No drawback (refund of duties) is available.
