January 9, 2025
The U.S. Trade Representative has launched an investigation into China's actions targeting the semiconductor industry, particularly in the manufacturing of foundational chips and silicon carbide substrates. This investigation, conducted under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, seeks to address China's unfair and potentially harmful practices that threaten U.S. competitiveness, supply chains, and economic security.
The investigation will include public comment and a public hearing (March 11-12, 2025), and the U.S. has requested consultations with China.
